The drop everything and read day (DEAR) is next Monday, October 23rd.  It is a BC wide challenge to encourage reading.  We will have the whole school participate in this challenge and have all the students and adults silently read in the hallways for 15 minutes.  This way the visual cue of everyone reading could be seen by all the students.  We are setting the time for  10a.m. on the 23rd as we can have the EAs participate during this time as well.

Pink in the Rink event being held this Friday Night by the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks.  We would love to fill the rink with Pink and would love to see some of the students and staff come and join us for this fun filled event.
All players will be wearing amazing Pink Jersey’s which will be silent auctioned off that evening and the proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Society.
It is sure to be a great evening and for such a great cause.  This is the first time the team has ever hosted such event and we are all looking forward to it.
Thanks so much for your time

Social Media Awareness And Parenting The Digital World

In Partnership with Safer Schools Together, SD 59 is presenting a series of presentations for parents and the community.

The 90 minute parent presentation will focus on all things digital. Your child in Middle/High School has now entered into the peak of their digital media lives and is rapidly developing their personal identity with cell phone in hand and you need to be prepared. Family rules, parental controls and developing a family tech plan will be outlined as well as recommendations for monitoring your tween/teen’s digital life.

As a parent, you must lead the charge as a digital role model and help your child develop a strong digital citizenship foundation while reminding them that their digital tattoo is a reflection of their real and online selves. At this age, they will encounter situations that will challenge their independence, including cyberbullying, cyberexclusion, the dangers of anonymity, privacy, sharing intimate images, and inappropriate websites. Parents have an important role to play in providing support and guidance during critical periods. A snapshot of current trends and concerning apps will be provided to equip you in your digital parenting strategy.
